How to Catch a Witch Halloween Writing Activity

Are you looking for a cute and engaging Halloween Writing Activity for your class? If yes, then look no further! This How to Catch a Witch Creative Writing is the perfect activity! Make sure to check out the video at the end of this post!

I love the enthusiasm that comes with Halloween, it is one of my favorite holidays in the classroom to celebrate! First, we start by discussing Halloween and different things that represent Halloween to us (what we think of when we think of Halloween). Then we discuss witches, what do we know about them? How do they move etc. I then read the book How to Catch a Witch by Alice Walstead and Megan Joyce. After we discuss how we would catch a witch! The students love coming up with creative ways of how they would set elaborate traps to catch their witch! They love it so much, that they wiz through it! I always have them complete a rough draft first in their journals and then I give them a good copy after I have edited it. I love seeing how creative the students make their witch’s leggings and shoes. Every time I do this activity I always get so many compliments!

This Halloween Writing Craft contains one craft with different writing templates! There are a few variations included.

To Catch a Witch…comes with five different writing page templates that fit into the cauldron:

One with “To catch a witch…” or “To catch a witch, I would…” at the top

One with “If I found a witch stuck…” at the top

One with “To help a witch get unstuck, I would…” at the top

One with just writing lines

One with no lines that can be used for drawing a picture in it – this is great for our younger learners or for those who need to have adaptations!

Also included:

Cauldron

Three different witches leg patterns (use the ones you like best)

Two different boot patterns one ankle boot and one tall boot (use the one you like best)

Print on colored paper or have students color their witches legs, boots and cauldron. Next, Staple extra pages onto the pot of gold for longer responses! OR you could have students draw a picture on the blank templates.

This is an adorable writing activity and so cute for your bulletin board! The kids love making these! Their enthusiasm will make writing a breeze!
